quasi experiment Flashcards
what is a quasi experiment
participants can’t be randomly assigned IV levels they’re an innate characteristic of participants
positive: ethical and practical feasibility
quasi experiments allow researchers to study variables that cannot be ethically or practically manipulated
negative: control of variables
less control over confounding variables so hard to establish cause and effect relationships between variables
positive: ecological validity
high ecological validity - applicable to real life situations
negative: lack of random assignemnt
participants are not randomly assigned to conditions so there is a higher risk of confouding variables influencing results and correlations
negative: lower internal validity
lack of random assignments and less control over extraneous variables so difficult to control for potential differences between groups - can introduce biases into results
positive: convenience
random assignment is not necessary so quicker
negative: replication
due to depending on natural settings its harder to replicate under same conditions so may reduce reliability of findings
