data analysis part 2 presentation of quantitative data Flashcards
what are bar charts used to show
frequency data for discrete variables. for example bar charts plot mean scores for conditions A and B separately
what are histograms used to show
continuous data, there should be no space in the bars therefore
what do scattergraphs show
the correlation or relationship between two sets of data by plotting dots to represent each pair of scores. it indicates the strength and direction of the correlation
what is a normal distribution
arrangement of data that is symmetrical and forms a bell shaped pattern where the mean, median or mode falls in the centre at the highest peak
what is a skewed distribution
where frequency data is not spread evenly and the data is clustered at one end.
what is a positive skewed distribution
it has a long tail that extends to the right, the mean will be greater than the median
what is a negative skewed distribution
it has a long tail that extends to the left, the median will be greater than the mean
