Independent Groups Flashcards
what is an independent group design
different participants take part in each condition. randomly allocated to each group to avoid researcher bias
positive: order effects
cannot observe order effects(how the positioning of tasks influences the outcone eg practice effect)
negative: participant variables
risk of participant variables affecting the results between conditions
positive: time
data collection less time consuming if all conditions of the experiment can be conducted simultaneously
negative: costs
different participants need to be recruited for each condition which can be difficult and expensive
negative: characteristics
if more particpants with a particular characteristic randomly assigned to one of the groups it can affect DV measument
