matched pairs design Flashcards
what is a matched pairs design
participants first assessed on a particular characteristic then experiment is carried out like independent group design
positive: participant variables
reduces participant variables - matching participants on relevant characteristics controls for individual differences between groups - minimising p.variables and increases reliability and comparibility
negative: time and matching
difficult and time consuming to match particpants
if matching not done properly particpant variables affect results
positive: order effects
there are no order effects you only take part in one condition
positive: demand characteristics
less likely to guess aim of study
negative: amount of particpants
more participants needed due to only one condition
