Profiles Flashcards
Explain the difference between a trail attack and a cruise attack:
Trail = Lead first, wing second IOT cover arcs
Cruise = Coordinated weapon effects to the target at the same time
Explain the three different types of hover engagements:
Hover Hold —> DOP/RHH ON, FS pilot looks near, BC looks far w/ RMS (HF or inners)
Roll —> Outers, slowly tracking towards TGT remaining BLW ETL
Rock ‘n’ Roll —> Outers, rock back 10-15ºNU, max 10kts GS rearwards, then rock FWD to TGT, renter the hover
List the possible low and medium level attack profiles and how they can be setup:
Attack Profiles:
Running level —> Is a level ALT towards the TGT (typically flown MED LVL)
Diving —> TGT approx 10ºND
Setup:
Offset —> Positions the ACFT L/R of the TGT
Straight —> Straight in to TGT
Pop —> Using to trade speed for height IOT use a diving profile
The TPMR has been given with a right pull off trail attack, what direction would lead and wing turn?
Lead turns in the same direction as the pull direction, wing turns away from the pull direction
You are flying a MED level dive profile, when do you start your decel prior to “tipping in”
100KIAS —> Commence decel through 3500m
What speed/PWR setting is associated with the perch?
40-60KTS (50kts)
40-50PMI (45PMI)
Explain the Overhead hold:
- 1500-2000m (Gun)
- 3-4000m (RKT)
- 75KIAS
- Clockwise
- “Tipping in” —> Turn + decel to achieve the perch
Explain what “Descending” and “Diving” fire means regarding rockets:
Descending (Inners)
- Aims to achieve a constant RoD and IAS aided with ESUs
Diving (Outers)
- Increasing RoD and IAS will occur due to fixed firing direction
From the point approaching the break until turned outbound, what is verbalised?
“On the break” …. “Breaking” ….. “XX Off right (visual)” …. “RoD under control, descending/climbing”
At what point should the break be initiated?
Not past 1000m I.e. Between 1100 and 1000m
