How do the crew decide weather a fire should be fought airborne vs on the ground?
If a landing can be made within 30sec, then the crew should prioritise the landing and fight the fire on the ground, if not continue with the checklist while concurrently preparing to land

“ENG 2 Fire”
- Attempt to confirm: MFD ENG page T4.5/NG/Nf —> Smoke/Fumes —> External C/S (ATC/Formation)
- “ENG 2 Fire confirmed” —> Landing area?
- Checklist out —> ENG EMERG Shutdown (Pause if on finals) —> NG below 20% = Shot 1 —> Start timer
- Land ASAP
While airborne the aircrews response to an aircraft ENG fire can go in 3 different ways, what are they?
- ENG Fire —> Confirmed —> Landing available within 30 sec —> AEO term w/ ground BF
- ENG Fire —> Confirmed —> Landing site > 30 sec away —> Cx airborne —> OEI or AEO term depending on Cx
- ENG Fire —> Confirmed —> No nearby landing sites —> Fight the fire airborne —> OEI term
