Principles Of Training Flashcards
What are the Principles of training?
- Specificity
- Progressive Overload
- Individual needs
- FITT (frequency, intensity, time and type)
What is Specificity?
Matching training to requirements of a sport/activity
What is Progressive Overload?
Gradually increasing the amount of overload to improve fitness but without injury. It means working at a higher range of intensity than the minimum threshold of training.
What is your minimum threshold of training?
The area between the minimum and maximum threshold of training is called the target zone. (60%-80%)
Individual needs
Matching training to a requirement of an individual
What is FITT?
- Frequency (how often)
- Intensity (how hard/target zone)
- Time (how long each training session lasts to be of any benefit)
- Type (method of training to achieve certain goals)
What does RRRO stand for …
Rest
Recovery
Reversibility
Overtraining
Rest
The period of time allocated to recovery
Recovery
Repair of damage to the body caused by training or competition
Adaptation
Your body’s response to training and how your body chabges to cope with new activity
Overtraining
When yo train beyond your body’s ability to recover
Reversibility
Gradually losing fitness instead of progressing or remaining at the current level. This happens when a person is ill or injured
What are signs of overtraining?
- Illness
- Injury
- Fatigue
