What is jaundice for infants
o yellowing of skin/eyes caused by too much bilirubin in baby’s blood
Risks for jaundice in infants
o Premature
o different blood type than mother
o genetic problem
o born with increased RBC or large bruise on head.
Jaundice treatment infants
o mild case can go away on its own
o breast feed more often
o fluids
o phototherapy
o exchange blood transfusion
o IV immunoglobin.
