Emergency nursing Flashcards
What is sepsis
Body responses improper to infection
Stages of sepsis
- infection enters bloodstream causing organ failure and septic shock
Risks for developing sepsis
o suppressed immune system
o organ transplant recipients
o after any surgical procedure
o diabetes
o pneumonia
o urine infections
Sepsis symptoms
S - shivering
E- extreme plain
P - pallor skin
S - shock
I - it feels like you are gonna die
S - sob (dyspnea)
Sepsis treatment
- blood
- antibiotics
- fluid
What is shock
state of insufficient blood flow to tissues of the body as a result of problems with the circulatory system.
What is obstructive shock
Obstruction to blood flow, commonly pulmonary embolism
Causes of obstructive shock
o collapsed lung
o hemothorax
o cardiac tamponade).
What is cardiogenic shock
damage to heart can decrease blood flow to the body leading to this
Treatment for cardiogenic shock
o heart surgery
o medications
o fluid resuscitation.
What is distributive shock
- inadequate blood flow distribution
Symptoms of distributive shock and vital sign
- tachypnea
- tachycardia
- hypotension
- Loss of consciousness
o Irregular heartbeat
o Shallow breathing
o Low urine output
Treatment of hypovolemic shock
o monitor oxygen,
o monitor urinary output,
o crystalloids/colloids fluids
Anaphylactic Shock:
o Form of distributive shock
o Occurs due to an allergen in the body
Symptoms of Anaphlactic shock
o dyspnea
o wheezing
o coughing
o tachycardia
o hypotension
