(P4) Resp Pathos: Bronchopneumonia Flashcards
Identify:
Bronchopneumonia
- RBCs and neutrophils/vascular congestion
- Bronchioles filled with pus
- Bronchiectasis: permanent dilation of bronchi and bronchioles caused by destruction of muscle and elastic supporting tissue
- Infection: streptococci and staphylococci, HIV
- Congestion, Red hepatization, gray hepatization, resolution
- Purulent inflammation
- HIV/AIDS
Identify:
Identify:
Bronchopneumonia
Identify Lesion
What is the cause?
Bronchopneumonia
Caused by infection of air way (trachea, bronchi)
Streptococci, staphylococci
Identify lesion
Bronchopneumonia
identify lesion:
What changes can be observed in this lesion and what are the 4 Stages?
Bronchopneumonia
-Multifocal changes-
Four stages, but we can observe different stages in every focus.
Pneumonia has 4 stages:
Congestion
Red hepatization
Gray hepatization
Resolution
Identify:
Describe Macro appearence
and
this lesion is a complication of?
Bronchopneumonia
macro: multifocal changes. Inflammations are yellow.
-Usually complication of bronchitis
Slide:
Describe the appearance of the
Normal area and Inflamed area:
Bronchopneumonia
- Normal area:* some fluid in normal area (septa visible).
- Inflamed area:* Septa almost invisible (lots of cells in exudate compresses the septa).
Bronchi filled by pus (inflammation start in bronchi, then involves other areas) (neutrophils, cellular debris).
Bronchopneumonia
- Describe the contents of the Pus:
- What is seen on slide?
- Where does it spread
- Type of inflammation
- Main cells involved
- Causes what w/ Pt’s w/ long term dis.
- Pus contents – neutrophils, macrophages, cellular debris
- What is on slide? – bronchi filled w/pus
- Spreads to alveoli around bronchus
- Classical PURULENT INFLAMMATION (of alveoli and bronchi)
- Main cell – NEUTROPHILS
Causes: Patients with long term diseases
- Bedridden
- HIV
- Neoplasms
