(P4) Resp Pathos: Bronchopneumonia Flashcards

1
Q

Identify:

A

Bronchopneumonia

  1. RBCs and neutrophils/vascular congestion
  2. Bronchioles filled with pus
  3. Bronchiectasis: permanent dilation of bronchi and bronchioles caused by destruction of muscle and elastic supporting tissue
  4. Infection: streptococci and staphylococci, HIV
  5. Congestion, Red hepatization, gray hepatization, resolution
  6. Purulent inflammation
  7. HIV/AIDS

Q

identify lesion:

What changes can be observed in this lesion and what are the 4 Stages?

A

Bronchopneumonia

-Multifocal changes-

Four stages, but we can observe different stages in every focus.

Pneumonia has 4 stages:

Congestion

Red hepatization

Gray hepatization

Resolution

Q

Slide:

Describe the appearance of the

Normal area and Inflamed area:

A

Bronchopneumonia

  • Normal area:* some fluid in normal area (septa visible).
  • Inflamed area:* Septa almost invisible (lots of cells in exudate compresses the septa).

Bronchi filled by pus (inflammation start in bronchi, then involves other areas) (neutrophils, cellular debris).

Q

Bronchopneumonia

  1. Describe the contents of the Pus:
  2. What is seen on slide?
  3. Where does it spread
  4. Type of inflammation
  5. Main cells involved
  6. Causes what w/ Pt’s w/ long term dis.
A
  1. Pus contents – neutrophils, macrophages, cellular debris
  2. What is on slide? – bronchi filled w/pus
  3. Spreads to alveoli around bronchus
  4. Classical PURULENT INFLAMMATION (of alveoli and bronchi)
  5. Main cell – NEUTROPHILS

Causes: Patients with long term diseases

  1. Bedridden
  2. HIV
  3. Neoplasms
