Q
  • Uremic cardiomyopathy*
  • What type of Cardiomyopathy is it?*
A

Type of secondary cardiomyopathy

  • Dilated, hypertrophic or rarely restrictive*
  • • Four‐chamber hypertrophy and/or dilatation are evident*
  • • Most muscle cells are hypertrophied with enlarged nuclei, but some are attenuated, stretched, and irregular*
  • • Interstitial and endocardial fibrosis of variable degree is present*

Q

Uremic cardiomyopathy

Uremia forms due to what condition and resulting in what?

A

Uremia in chronic renal failure

Failure of renal excretory function, metabolic and endocrine alteration in renal damage

Fibrinous or serofibrinous pericarditis

Fibrin layer on surface of pericardium

Q
  • Uremic cardiomyopathy*
  • Leads to?*
A

Leads to enlargement of cardio myocardium

Note: If without known cause – primary

  • Some causes of disease:* uremia, alcoholic
  • Normal heart around 300-350 grams.*

With cardiomyopathy can weight up to 900 grams.

Q

Uremia

A
  • Cardio myofiber becomes larger, split ends, irregular distribution–Fiber scars at split ends of myocardial fibers of myocardium
  • Increase in interstitial tissue
  • Whole myocardium is enlarged–Enlarged myocardium usually develop clinical insufficiency
