OTHER ARTHROPATHY III Flashcards
A chronic autoimmune inflammatory disorder characterized by diminished
lacrimal and salivary gland function with resulting dry eyes and mouth.
can also have a variety of disease manifestations affecting multiple organs and organ systems
sjogrens syndrome
hallmark symptoms of SS with lab criteria and no other connective tissue disease
primary sjogren’s syndrome
hallmark symptoms of SS in the setting of additional connective tissue disease
secondary sjogren’s syndrome
etiology of sjogren’s syndrome?
Not well linked to any specific cause
Does appear to have a genetic tendency
hallmarks of SS?
Keratoconjunctivitis sicca
Xerostomia
together called Sicca complex
clinical symptoms of SS?
Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca Xerostomia Fatigue raynauds skin -dry skin -purpura -annular erythema MSK lung, thyroid, kidney, NS
Complication/Association with Sjögren’s Syndrome?
Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma 7.5 years from SS diagnosis
how is SS diagnosed?
look for symptoms, dry eye and mouth and lab testing
eye exam
labial salivary gland biopsy
labs
- ANA positive
- specific labs (anti-Ro/SS-A)
SS treatment?
consult if suspected
reduce dry eye and mouth
organ based disease complications and treated as necessary
A bacterial infection caused by six species in the spirochete family Borrliaceae
lyme disease
clinical manifestations of lyme disease?
3 stages
- early localized
- early disseminated
- late Lyme disease which can present I later stages without exhibiting earlier signs of disease
what is the hallmark in early localized disease for Lyme disease?
erythema migrans, can be asymptomatic
name this stage of Lyme disease?
Characterized by multiple Erythema Migranslesions typically occur days to weeks after the infection and clinically apparent disease in other systems- specifically neurologic and/or cardiac findings (these may occur weeks to months after infection)
neuro and cardiac symptoms?
Early Disseminated Lyme Disease
lymphocytic meningitis
cranial nerve palsy
radiculopathy
av heart block
name this stage of Lyme disease?
Associated with intermittent or persistent arthritis involving 1 or a few joints, especially the knee and/or may have neurologic symptoms
- months to years after onset
- neuro symptômes can include: encephalopathy and polyneuropathy
Late Lyme disease
all stages of Lyme disease can have?
migratory pain in joints, tendons, bursae, and muscles that may last
hours to a few days in 1 location
