[OLD] Respiration - Oxidative Phosphorylation Flashcards
1
Q
Describe oxidative phosphorylation. (9 points)
A
NADH brings protons to inner membrane of mitochondrial membrane.
Electrons pass along carrier proteins.
The energy released is used to actively transport protons into the intermembrane space.
Same for FADH.
The electrons are removed from the electron carriers and given to oxygen - the terminal electron carrier.
The protons diffuse through the ATP synthase protein and the energy released is used to make ATP.
The protons join to the oxygen to make water.
