[OLD] Populations - Evolution: Exam Questions Flashcards
Evidence for polygenic inheritance
Data showing continuous variation
What is mean by the median?
The middle value when in order form smallest to largest.
Evidence for normal distribution
Bell-shaped curve
Mean = median = mode
What does polygenic inheritance show?
There’s a large range of alleles.
Explain the advantage of presenting the results as a ratio.
The results are comparable even when from different sized samples.
Explain how a new species might evolve in a new environment. (6)
There is genetic variation in the population.
A new mutation occurs.
That gives the organism the allele that allows the organisms to survive in the new environment.
Better adapted organisms will be more likely to survive and reproduce.
This increases the frequency of the allele.
No interbreeding.
