October 8, 2015 - SG - Leukocytosis Flashcards
Orderly vs Disorderly
Orderly implies that there are more “mature” cells than immature cells.
Disorderly is the other way around.
Philadelphia Chromosome
A fusion of chromosome 9 and 22.
Diagnostic of CML
Imatinib
Also known as Gleevac
Is a 1st generation tyrosine-kinase inhibitor used in the treatment of cancers, most notably Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) CML.
Gleevac
Also known as Inatinib
1st generation TK inhibitor
Leukamoid Reaction
Is an increased WBC count with a physiological response to stress or infection. This can mimic leukemia. This can be either lymphoid or myeloid.
However, some differences are that it will be orderly, have normal levels of basophils and eosinophils, not have blasts, always have thrombocytosis, usually have no splenomegaly, and not have Ph Chromosome.
Affects of Prednisone
Antibody suppression
Impaired phagocytosis
Lymphopenia
Monocytopenia
Elevated Eosinophils
They can be really high in the presence of parasites and allergies.
