August 26, 2015 - Anti-Virals Flashcards
1
Q
Tamiflu
A
Works by inhibiting neuraminidase so that it cannot cleave the hemagglutinin. These prevents the release of viral particles.
2
Q
Chain Inhibitors
A
Use a nucleotide mimicker which cannot be extended. When it is incorporated into the DNA, the polymerization stops.
This does not affect host DNA because the nucleotide needs to be phosphorylated first, which is done by a viral enzyme. The body takes care of phosphorylating the nucleotides in a different way.
3
Q
Adding Valine to a Drug
A
Increases the amount of the drug that is absorbed.
4
Q
Most Often Use of Antivirals
A
For treating HSV infections and influenza.
