Aspirin

A

Generic name: acetylsalicylic acid (ASA)
Chewable tablets: 80mg
Note: these are NAPRA Schedule II
Tablets and EC (enteric coated) tablets: 81mg, 325mg, 650mg
81mg usually taken once daily to help prevent risk of heart attack and stroke
For pain relief, common dose=325mg-650mg Q4-6H PRN
Auxiliary label: take with food
81mg=”Daily low dose”
325mg=”Regular strength”
650mg=”Extra strength”
Use should be avoided in children as it can cause Reye’s syndrome
Analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic

A
Generic name: acetaminophen
Tablets and capsules: 325mg and 500mg
Common dose=325mg-500mg Q4-6H PRN
Note: maximum dose=4g in 24 hour period
Analgesic, anti-pyretic
Can cause damage to liver
