Common name: steroids
Common ending: -sone
-ide
Commonly used to treat: asthma, COPD
Common adverse reaction: thrush (fungal infection in mouth)
Common auxiliary labels: rinse mouth after use (all inhaled steroids- this is to help prevent thrush)
-shake well before use (most metered dose inhalers)
Mechanism of Action
Decrease proinflammatory substances
Notes: used to help control asthma
-commonly dosed twice daily

Metered dose inhaler (MDI): 100mcg per dose, 200mcg per dose
Flovent
Generic name: fluticasone
Metered dose inhaler (MDI): 50mcg per dose, 125mcg per dose, 250mcg per dose
Diskus
QVAR
Generic name: beclomethasone
Metered dose inhaler (MDI): 50mcg per dose, 100mcg per dose
