  • Origin: clavicular head (sternal end of clavicle), sternocostal head (sternum, costal cartilage ribs 1-6, aponeurosis of external oblique muscle)
  • Insertion: intertubercular sulcus and greater tubercle of humerus
  • Innervation: lateral and medial pectoral nerves
  • Action: arm flexion (clavicular head), extend arm from flexed position (sternocostal head), rotates arm medially, adducts arm

  • Origin: spinous processes of T6-T12, thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest, ribs 8(9)-12
  • Insertion: intertubercular sulcus of humerus
