MT AP Ch.7 Test Study Guide Flashcards
Describe two different ways of spelling each of these triad types from a given root: major, minor, diminished, and augmented
One way would be by interval: Major Triad consists of M3 + m3, minor Triad: m3 + M3, Diminished: m3 + m3, Augmented: M3 + M3. All those triads are framed by 5th interval, d5 for diminished triad and A5 for Augmented triad
The other method would be to think of Major scale, where triads on 1st, 4th, and 5th scale degree are ALWAYS MAJOR; triads on 2nd, 3rd and 6th are always minor, and th are diminished.
What are the differences between the following ways of labeling triads: chord quality, figured bass, Roman numeral, lead sheet?
Chord quality labels indicate if triad is Major, minor, diminished or Augmented. Figured bas has an actual line of bass notes given with numbers under it. Those numbers represent the intervals to be played (written) above the bass to make the chords. Roman numerals indicate the quality and inversion of the chord. Lead sheet has chord symbols indicated with Letter names of the root with Capital letter, min for minor chord, etc.
