MSK III: intro to the spine Flashcards
MSK: intro to the spine
For our evaluation process, we will focus on two categories of information:
- Biomechanical/patho-anatomical (e.g., symmetry, movement patterns, etc.)
- Patient response (e.g., pain provocation primarily)
MSK: intro to the spine
For our diagnosis of the spine, we will primarily use which classification system?
Treatment Based Classification (TBC) System
which treatment will help the patient. There is a belief that physiological, biomechanical, or pain dysfunctions are causing the problem. But technically, the diagnosis is TREATMENT based.
MSK: intro to the spine
For our clinical reasoning regarding diagnosis we will use a “mixed model,” combining:
- Hypothetical deductive reasoning
- Pattern recognition
MSK: intro to the spine
Order of the interventions ACROSS sessions will be guided by:
Pain reduction as needed → achieve mobility (if motion is not limited by pain or inflammation) → achieve control (if motion is not limited by tissue extensibility) → achieve strength and function (if motion control is appropriate)

Order of the interventions WITHIN a single session will be guided by:
Soft tissue mobilization → joint mobilization → stretching → neuromuscular retraining
