MA II: Thoracic and Lumbar Flashcards
1
Q
MA II: Thoracic and Lumbar
thoracic spine kinematics
A
- 30-40° flexion, 20-25° deg extension
- 30° horizontal (axial) rotation (ipsilateral joint approximation)
- 25° lateral flexion (side bending)
2
Q
MA II: Thoracic and Lumbar
in the thoracic region, vertebral articular facets are oriented towards the
A
frontal plane
3
Q
MA II: Thoracic and Lumbar
in the lumbar region, facets surfaces are oriented towards the
A
sagittal plane
except L5-S1: facets frontal plane orientation
4
Q
MA II: Thoracic and Lumbar
lumbar spine kinematics
A
- 0-50° flexion, 0-15° extension
- 0-5° rotation (R rotation opens R facets)
- 0-20° side bending
5
Q
MA II: Thoracic and Lumbar
lumbopelvic rhythm during flexion
A
- Bending forward: 40° lumbar flexion, 70° (hip) pelvic on femoral flexion
- Too much lumbar flexion → limited hamstrings and hip flexion
- Limited lumbar flexion → greater mobility is required at the hip joint
6
Q
MA II: Thoracic and Lumbar
lumbopelvic rhythm during extension
A
- Initiated by extension hip joints
- Followed extension lumbar spine
7
Q
MA II: Thoracic and Lumbar
anterior and posterior pelvic tilt in sitting (muscles)
A
- Anterior tilt pelvis caused hip flexor and back extensor muscles
- Posterior pelvic tilt is caused by abdominal and hip extensor muscles
