Adult Neuro: Brunnstrom’s Stages of Recovery Flashcards
Brunnstrom
Flaccid Stage. No voluntary or reflexive movement
can be elicited in either involved limb
stage 1
Brunnstrom
Spasticity is developing but is minimal. Some components of the basic limb synergies may be noted BUT ONLY reflexively, on an attempt to move, or as an associated reaction. NO volitional movement present:
Stage 2
Brunnstrom’s Stages of Recovery
The movement may begin to deviate from basic limb synergy - some joint isolation possible. ONE JOINT isolation only. Decreased spasticity
Stage 4
Brunnstrom’s Stages of Recovery
Spasticity is at the highest point – may be severe. NO isolation of movement is present. Basic limb synergies noted on command for active movement
Stage 3
Brunnstrom’s Stages of Recovery
TWO JOINT isolation is possible. Spasticity continues to decrease
Stage 5
Brunnstrom’s Stages of Recovery
THREE JOINT isolation possible. Spasticity is absent, but timing & coordination not quite right yet
Stage 6
Brunnstrom’s Stages of Recovery
Restoration of normal motor function is complete including timing, sequence, and coordination
Stage 7
Brunnstrom’s Stages of Recovery
In what stage spasticity is absent?
stage 6
