Q

Q

Adult Neuro: GBS

key objective examination in GBS

A
  • History (pattern, sequence of symptoms)
  • Motor function: AROM/PROM/MMT; cranial nerves; respiratory; balance; posture; functional assessment
  • Sensory: dermatomes; type of sensory loss; pain
  • Autonomic changes: vitals; B & B function
  • Outcomes measures: GBS Disability Scale

GBS exercise precautions

A

excessive exercise during early reinnervation can lead to further damage rather than to the usual exercise-induced muscle hypertrophy
Avoid muscle fatigue/overuse

Q

Adult Neuro: GBS

GBS lab tests include CSF (protein levels and WBC count) and nerve conduction velocity. What results would you expect in these lab tests?

A
  • CSF: elevated protein (because of myelin is broken down), and normal WBC
  • Abnormal NCV: slower
