Monocytes/lymphocytes, Eosin/Baso Flashcards
Monocytes share the same lineage as what?
Neutrophils
Monocytes have a similar mechanism to what?
Neutrophils
Dogs and cats can see a monocyte increase in response to what?
Corticosteroid use
What produces lymphocytes?
Bone marrow, lymph nodes, and other primary lymphoid tissues
What are common causes of lymphocytosis?
Chronic inflammation: will also see neutrophilia, monocytosis with this
Physiologic: epinephrine induced due to increased blood flow
Lymphoproliferative disease: leukemic stage of lymphoma
Due to hypoadrenocorticism: lack of glucocorticoid hormones
Young animals: common in young animals
If you see a leukocytosis, what is the one dz you should always consider?
Addison’s disease; will present with a leukocytosis and a neutropenia
What are the causes of lymphopenia?
Acute inflammatory: increased margination into tissues
Corticosteroid use: most common cause. Shifts from circulating pool to other pools
Depletion: loss of lymph
Lymphoma associated: common; decreased production
Eosinophils are short/long lived in the blood
Short lived
Eosinophilia can be due to what?
Allergic/hypersensitivity disorders Parasitism Other inflammatory processes Mast cell degranulation Hypoadrenocorticism Idiopathis
Eosinopenia is associated with what?
Acute inflammation or corticosteroid. Alone it is no big deal
Basophilia is seen with what?
Allergic/hypersensitivity issues: insect bites, drugs, or foods
Parasitism
Neoplasia
