Can Stress be a good thing?

A

Short-lived, or stresses that are perceived as challenges can be positive
- motivates us to solve problems (athletes, entertainers, teachers, etc.)

Extreme or prolonged stress can harm

  • children who suffer abuse are more prone to disease
  • troops in heavy combat in Vietnam suffered increased health problems later in life
