Q

Brain Stem

A

Connects the cerebrum to the spinal cord.
Consist of the midbrain, medulla oblongata, and the pons.
Coordinates & relays motor signals
Controls supporting nervous system functions such as: breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, digestion.

Q

Cerebellum

A

Base of the skull
Controls motor movements coordination, balance, equilibrium, and muscle tone.
Relays info. between the muscles and the cerebral cortex for motor control.
Also incharge of some memory for relex motor acts.

Q

Frontal Lobe

A

Front of the brain (behind the forehead.
Involved in movement, making decisions, problem solving, & planning.
+ higher order functions, concentration & attention span, reasoning/critical thinking, judgement, impulse control, habitual memory and motor activities, emotional response & empathy, expressive language & meaning

Q

Temporal Lobe

A

Side of the head (above ears)
Organizes auditory information, production of language & speech, & emotional responses
comprehension of sound and speech ; processes auditory information
Aids in language and reading

Memory, hearing, sequencing, organization

Q

Pons

A

Above the Medulla
Coordinates movement and other autonomic functions.
Responsible for nonsexual arousal, sleep, and relaying information between the cerebellum & cerebral cortex

Q

Reticular Formation

A

Throughout the brainstem
Essential for arousal (sleeping, walking, and pain perception)
Regulates awareness & attention
