- Health is the stage of being free of signs and symptoms of disease
- Illness is the presence of signs and symptoms of disease
Clinical Model
Defined in terms of the individual’s ability to fulfill societal roles, that is, to perform his or her work
Role-Performance Model
- Health is a creative process and involves flexible adaptation to the environment
- Diseases is a failure in adaptation
Adaptive Model
- Health is a condition of actualization or realization of a person’s potential
- Illness is a condition that prevents self actualization
Eudaimonistic Model
- Also called ecologic model
- Used primarily in predicting illness rather than in promoting wellness
Agent-Host-Environment Model
any environmental factor or stressor (biologic, chemical, mechanical, physical, or psychosocial)
Agent
physical or psychological situations or conditions putting people at risk for illness
Host
all factors external to the host that may or may not predispose the person to the development of the disease
Environment
Grids or graduated scales used to measure a person’s perceived level of wellness

Iceberg Model
- What food you eat
- How you use and exercise you body

- How you safeguard yourself from the different hazards around you
Lifestyle / Behavioral Level
- What moves us to lead the lifestyle we have chosen
- What payoffs we get from being overweight, smoking, reckless driving or eating well, being considerate to others, getting regular exercise
Psychological / Motivational Level
- Mystical and mysterious and everything else in the unconscious mind
- Concerns such as issues as your reason for being
- The real meaning of life
- Your place in the universe
Spiritual / Being / Meaning Realm
In this model, the practice of massage, spiritual healing and acupuncture are used as treatment modalities
Yin and Yang Model
This model of health is a useful framework: firstly, factors that contribute to health, and secondly, the social determinants that have greatest impact on health status, and influence the opportunities, exposures, and behaviours that contribute to health.
Iceberg Model
This Model of Health and Wellness defined Health as being free of signs & symptoms of disease
Clinical Model
This model is the most comprehensive, holistic, view of health.

In this model, it views health as well-being.
