What is a cluster headache
A
- occurs in clusters
- intense pain in one eye

What is a sinus headache
A
- occurs when nose becomes blocked

What is Tension headache
A
- constant ache that feels like a tight-band around the head

What is a migraine
A
- unilateral throbbing pain
- nausea + vomiting
- Photosensitivity / sound sensitivity
- Migraine with or without aura
- Has acute triggers

What is an Aura in a migraine
A
a warning sign that a migraine is about to occur, and it can include sensory, visual, or motor disturbances

Referral criteria for headaches
A
- Unresponsive to analgesics in 1 day
- taking combined contraceptives with migraine type headache
- recurring headache
- neck stiffness
- children under 12
- severe headache longer than 4 hours
- Severe deep pain, worse when lying down (pressure form tumour)

OTC symptomatic treatment
A
- Analgesics (aspirin, ibuprofen, paracetamol)
- Anti-emetics for migraines
(prochlorperazine, buclizine, Migraleve Pinnk)

When can you give Sumatriptan
A
- previously tried OTC analgesics
- there is an established pattern >= 5 migraines per year
- Previously diagnosed by doctor or pharmacist

Sumatriptan Dose
A
- ONE 50mg tablet ASAP after migraine onset
- Do not take another one for the same attack
- Second dose can be taken 2 hours after if migraine recurs
- Max 2 in 24 hours

Migraine/headache advice
A
- daily use of analgesics can cause headaches (overuse)
- Codeine / dihydrocodein (No more than 3 days use)
