What is Childhood colic
A
- Excessive high pitched screaming
- Usually same time of day
- Starts in infancy and resolves in 4 to 6 months

A
at least 3 hours daily
at least 3 days a week
at least 3 weeks

Symptoms of Colic
A
- Difficult to comfort
- Red in the face (grimacing)
- Clenched fists
- Knees draw to stomach
- Excessive gas/trouble passing stool

A
- Inconsolable crying
- Failure to put on weight with age

- Massage the tummy in circular motion

Colic and milk
A
If infant is breast-fed…
- exclude cow’s milk and dairy from mother’s diet
If infant in Bottle-fed…
- try hypoallergenic formula

Other Colic tips
A
- Hold baby during crying episode
- Rock them over the shoulder
- Warm baths
- Burp them after feeds
- Hold them upright during feeding
