Alpha 1 blockers
- can enhance hypotension

- postural hypotension
- heart, kidney or liver problems
- uncontrolled diabetes
- urinary incontinence
- previous prostate surgery
- undiagnosed cloudy/blurred vision
- scheduled surgery for glaucoma or cataract

A
Tamsulosin (flomax relief)
- men 45 to 75 years

Supply criteria for tamsulosin OTC
A
- symptoms for >= 3 months
- initially give only 2 week supply
- give further if there is improvement after first course

A
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness

How to take tamsulosin
A
ONE 400mg capsule whole after same meal each day

A
- after 6 weeks see doctor if it s appropriate to continue
- every 12 months see doctor for a review to enable further OTC supply
- does not increase risk of prostate cancer
