A
white patches on tongue and mucosal surfaces inside mouth
(raw and sore underneath)
common in babies

Oral Thrush Referral
A
- Refer all apart from babies (unless taking steroid inhalers)
- Recurrent infection
- OTC treatment failure (>1week)

OTC treatment for oral thrush
A
Daktarin oral gel (apply 4 times a day after meals)
at least 4 months and 1 week after symptoms gone

Which medication interacts with Miconazole to increase risk of bleeding

Warfarin

Advice for oral thrush
A
- If taking high dose ICS, encourage use of spacer and mouth rinsing after use
- If breastfeeding, apply miconazole to nipple and wipe away before feeding
