Microscopy Flashcards
What do microscopes allow us to do?
See things that we can’t see with the naked eye.
How do light microscopes work?
They use light and lenses to form an imagine of a spéculent and magnify it.
What is the different between electron microscopes and light microscopes
Electron microscopes use electrons instead of light
They have a higher magnification
They have a higher resolution
(therefore we use them to see really small things eg mitochondria or ribosomes)
10 to the power -4?
0.00010
If you want to look at a cell under a microscope what do you put it on?
A microscope slide.
Why might you add stain to the sample on a microscope?
To highlight the object.
Disadvantages of an electron microscope
require specialist training to use
more expensive
cells must be dead to be viewed
advantages of an electron microscope?
higher resolution
higher magnification
