Membrane & transport Flashcards
Types of gated channels?
Voltage gated, chemically gated and mechanically gated
Voltage gated?
sensor stimulated by electrical stages of the cell (changes of ion conc)
Chemically gated?
sensor stimulated by intracellular messenger molecules or by an extracellular ligand.
Mechanically gated?
sensor stimulated by physical change such as increased temp or pressure
Endocytosis?
energy using process
cell absorbs molecule by engulfing them
exocytosis?
cell directs contents of secretory vesicles out of cell membrane into extracellular space
Carrier proteins?
Transports larger molecules like glucose and nucleotides than channel. Slower than channel. No direct connection between extra and intracellular environments.
Active transport Na+/K+ pump?
3Na out when ATP binds and 2K in when ATP detaches
Hypo solution compared to hyper solution?
hypo - sol with lower conc of osmotically active particles than inside cell
hyper - higher sol conc
