Cell signalling Flashcards
1
Q
What is it?
A
behaviour of cell during development depends on intercellular communication that
co-ordinates growth, differentiation + metabolism, homeostasis
2
Q
Autocrine
A
inside cell to other part of cell
3
Q
Extracellular
A
signal (primary messenger) – receptor – secondary messenger
(signaling cascade) – response
4
Q
Intracellular
A
biochemical reactions within cell, induced cell death, cell
proliferation, differentiation
5
Q
Why cell signaling is important?
A
- Control cell metabolism
- Cell division, cell growth, cell differentiation
- Cells respond to SPECIFIC signals
- Control of HOMEOSTSIS.
6
Q
Types of signaling molecules
A
Lipophilic- steroid hormones, thyroid hormones, vitamin D
- Hydrophilic- Insulin, glucagon, growth receptors, adrenaline, noradrenaline
- Local mediators - numerous growth factors- CO. NO. histamines
