Q
When a compound has more then one chirality center, it will have enantiomers and diastereomers.
Sometimes, instead of diastereomers, (if some rules are apparent) we can have a meso compound.
what is a meso compound?
A
sometimes, the diastereomers, that arises are both identical, and therefore has no chirality - meso.
it arises because the molecule has a plane of symmetry.
2
Q
How is a meso conformation defined?
A
Compounds that are achiral, yet contains chirality centers are called meso compounds.
(the 2 c-centers are bounded to the same 4 groups).
