McMurry (kap. 1,12) Flashcards
What is a condensed structure?
A way to illustrate covalent bonded atoms (more simplified then the line-strucure, kekule).
Here the Carbon-hydrogen and Carbon-Carbon bonds are not shown as a line, but they are just written besides each other (CH4).
If one unit is bonded two times to the same atom, the condensed structure will group them together CCH3CH3 = C(CH3)2
What is the Skeletal structure?
The simplest structure, there are 3 rules to draw the structure:
1.rule= C-atoms are not shown (assumed to be at each “bøjning, knak” and at the end of the line.
2.rule = Hydrogen atoms bonded to C are not shown.
3.rule = atoms other than C and H are shown.
Sometimes the chemical names are written inverted in the skeletal formula, why?
To make the bonding connections in a molecule clearer. Though only for shorter units. To write inverted for larger units would be confusing.
