16
Q

What is the function of the lingual nerve

A

Sensation to anterior 2/3rds tongue
Sensation to mucosa of floor of mouth and mandibular lingual gingivae

17
Q

Where is the lingual nerve

A

Joined by chorda tympani (branch of VII, infraterporal fossa)

18
Q

What is the innervation of the mucosa of anterior 2/3rds of tongue

A

Lingual branch of mandibular nerve general sensory
Chorda tympani branch of VII special sensory

19
Q

What is the innervation of the mucosa of posterior 1/3rd of tongue

A

IX lingual branch general and special sensory

20
Q

What is the innervation of the epiglottis and oesophagus

A

X superior laryngeal

21
Q

What is the innervation of tongue muscles

A

XII
Palatoglossus innervated by pharyngeal plexus (IX,X,XI)

22
Q

Where does the chorda tympani branch go

A

Leaves CN VII within facial canal of petrosal temporal bone and enters middle ear passes anteriorly across medial aspect of tympanic membrane and exits from skull through petrotympanic fissure
Passes anteriorly and inferiorly, medial to spine of sphenoid and joins posterior aspect of lingual nerve deep to inferior border of lateral pterygoid m continues as part of lingual nerve and is carried to FOM

23
Q

What is the location of the otic ganglion

A

Infratemporal fossa just below foramen ovale

24
Q

What is the innervation of the parotid gland

A

Parasympathetic components of glossopharyngeal nerve from otic ganglion

25
Q

Where is the retromolar fossa

A

Lies immediately behind last mandibular molar just under mucosa
