Male Reproductive Flashcards
Characteristics of Tunica Albuginea
Septa and Media Stinum
Where do Leydig Cells reside?
Between Semineforous tubules
Leydig Cells are typical steroid producing cells characterized by..
- Smooth ER
- Lipid Droplets
- Mitochondria with tubular cristae
Steroid (testosterone) produced by Leydig cells can do the following:
- Maintain Spermatogenesis
- Maintain accessory glands of reproduction
- Secondary sex charactersitcs (facial hair, muscles)
- Libido (sex drive)
Androgen Insensitivity Hormone
Male genotype (XY) but female phenotype and infertile
Sertoli cells have 3 functions what are they
2 on other cards,
3. Cells are necessary for germ cell viability (sustentacular role)
Spermatogenesis VS Spermiogenesis
spermATOgenesis: The many mitosis and meiosis times that a spermatogonia must under go to become a spermatid (entire process)
sperMIOgenesis: Differentiation that occurs between round to elongated spermatozoa
DNA replication and division (4n, 2n, 1n)
4n-Primary Spermatocytes
2n- Secondary Spermatocytes
1n- (haploid) are spermatid
Cycle of Seminiferous Epithelium
All germ cells in stage 1 will uniformly divide and differentiate into next set of cells in stage 2 then uniformly differentially and divide to cells in stage 3. the whole process takes about 53-74 days in men. Then sperm is released and Stage Vi will differentiate to cells in stage 1 (it’s a cycle).
-Sequqence of time (temporal sensation) facillitated bc germ cells have incomplete cytokinesis
Epididymis (ductus epididymis) is one long duct (7meters) that is covered by…
Pseudostratified columnar epithelium with STERIOCILIA which concentrates sperm into lumen of epididymus
Sperm Maturation in Epididymis
fertilization increases as sperm moves along the body (corpus)
- Sperm mature and are more capable to fertilize
- lumen/diameter of duct increases which allows the flow rate to slow down at tail of epidydymys (that’s why its store bc it can last there for a month or so)
Urinary Urgencies
BPh- benign hypothehic # which occur with age
Corpora Amylacea
With Age, these appear in prostate
Unique histoogical structure of bulbourethral gland
Skeletal muscle
Infolding of nuclear membrane is characteristic of…
Sertoli Cell Nuclei
