What is malaria caused by?
Parasite of plasmodium family.
Transmitted by female anopheles mosquito.
How does malaria spread?
Mosquito bites a person
Parasite injected into blood stream.
Parasites multiple in liver and infect red blood cells.
Another mosquito will bite this person and the parasite will go into them and they will contract malaria.
They will then bite another person and give them malaria.
Symptoms of malaria.
Fever
Headache
Vomit
When will symptoms appear?
10-15 days after been bitten
Why does malaria need to be treated straight away?
Distrust blood supply to vital organs. Weakens immune system. Anaemia in women’s and children. Poor growth and development. Low birth weight of babies.
How can malaria be passed on to by humans?
Blood transfusions.
Organ transplants.
Mother to baby.
Why is malaria not contagious?
can’t get it by physical touch.
Saliva.
It’s passed on by mosquito itself.
