What are the responsibilities of the lymphatic system?
Carrying disease fighters to cells that have been attacked by germs
Carry dead germs away
What consists of the lymphatic system?
Lymph fluid, vessels and organs
Define lymph fluid
Formed when blood plasma filters out of the capillaries
Called interstitial fluid
Contains proteins, fats, bacteria, white blood cells
What is the function of lymph nodes?
Defense mechanism
White blood cell formation
Define the thymus gland
Secretes hormones that develops T cells

First line of defence against bacteria entering through the mouth or nose

Has a large network of veins and acts as a reservoir of blood

What is an example of active natural immunity?
Child gets measles-> recovers. ->becomes immune
What is an example of active artificial immunity?
Person gets a flu shot-> person develops immunity after exposure
What is an example of passive natural immunity?
Fetus receives protection from mom through placenta
What is an example of passive artificial immunity?
Injection of antibodies
What are the 3 phagocytes in the immune system?

Bone marrow white blood cells that digest foreign cells or particles
