A
  1. Ingestion: eating or drinking by mouth
  2. Secretion: saliva breaking down enzymes in mouth
  3. Mixing/propulsion: contraction and relaxation of muscles
  4. Digesting: breaking down food into smaller pieces
  5. Absorption: taking in nutrients and water from food
  6. Defection: poop what’s left

Mucous cells: secrete alkaline mucous to protect the epithelium from stomach acid
Parietal cells: secretes stomach acid
