Lower Limb 1 (part 2) Flashcards
What is the iliotibial (IT) band?
lateral thickening of the tensor fascia which runs from ilium to the tibia
what is the function of the fascial intermuscular septa
project internally to attach to the bone and create rigid compartments of the leg and thigh
what are the rigid compartments of the thigh?
anterior, medial, posterior
what are the rigid compartments of the leg?
anterior, lateral, deep posterior, superficial posterior
what are the anterior thigh muscles?
iliopsoas, sartorius, pectineus, quadriceps femoris
what muscles from the quadriceps femoris?
rectus femoris, vastus (intermedius, medialis, lateralis)
what are the medial thigh muscles?
adductors (longus, magnus, brevis), gracilis, obturator externus
what forms the floor of the femoral triangle?
iliopsoas, pectineus
what forms the roof of the femoral triangle?
fascia lata
what forms the lateral, medial, and superior boundaries of the femoral triangle?
sartorius (lateral), adductor longus (medial), inguinal ligament (superior)
from lateral to medial, describe the contents of the femoral triangle?
femoral nerve, femoral artery, femoral vein, lymphatics
what is the femoral sheath? what does it contain?
funnel-like fascial covering, contains femoral artery, femoral vein, and lymphatics
what is the adductor canal?
intermuscular passageway for the femoral artery and vein as they travel towards the adductor hiatus
what do the femoral artery and vein become after passing through the adductor hiatus?
popliteal artery and vein
what are the boundaries of the adductor canal?
adductor longus and magnus (posteromedial), sartorius (anterior), vastus medialis (lateral)
what are the gluteal regional muscles?
gluteus muscles, tensor fascia latae, piriformis, obturator muscles, gemellus muscles, quadratus femoris muscles
