Lecture 14. Kin Selection Flashcards
What does natural selection tend to select towards ?
Selfish traits
What is altruism ?
A pattern of behaviour performed by an individual that decreases the fitness of that individual, but which increases the fitness of one or more individuals
What are evolutionary stable strategy ?
Traits which cannot be invaded by their alternate allele
What is an example of group selection ?
Groups of altruists persist linger, while selfish groups die out
Why do animals co-operate ?
- Humans are weird
- Reciprocal altruism
- Kin selection
- Forced co-operation
- Mutualism
What is the relationship between cooperation and intelligence ?
At low and high intelligence co-operation is high and at mid levels of intelligence it is low
What is the coefficient of relationship ?
The chance that one of your genes is present in a relatives genotype
What is inclusive fitness ?
The effects of an individual on gene propagation
What is Hamiltons Rule ?
Do the helpful action if the cost to you is less than the benefit to the recipient times you coefficient of relatedness to them
