Kinetics Flashcards
What is rate?
How fast reactions are being consumed or how fast products are formed
What is reactant rate determined by?
How frequent reactant molecules collide, orientation of colliding molecules, and energy
When does transition state usually occur?
At the energy max
Are kinetic and thermodynamic factors related?
No
What does a catalyst do?
Accelerates the reaction by lowering activation energy
Do catalyst effect equilibrium?
No
What order is the rate for a unimolecular step?
First order
What order is the rate for the bimolecular step?
Second order
What will adding a catalyst or increasing temperature do to the rate constant?
Increase the rate constant
What is kcat?
Number of substrate molecules converted to product per unit time. Limiting rate at saturation
Effects of uncompetitive inhibition
Only binds to enzyme substrate complex. Lowers Vmax. LWB shows parallel lines. As inhibitor is increased lines shift to the left
Effects of mixed inhibition
Binds to enzyme or enzyme substrate complex. Vmax goes down. Km goes up. LWB shows intersection
Effects of competitive inhibitor
Vmax has no change but km will
