KIN 100 - Scapulohumeral Muscles (lecture 6) Flashcards
What does scapulohumeral muslces attach
the humerus to the scapula
What do scapulohumeral muscles act on and where does it cause movement
acts on glenohumeral joint and cause movement of the shoulder
What are the four scapulohumeral muscles are considered rotator cuff muscles
- Supraspinatus
- Infraspinatus
- Teres minor
- Subscapularis
What scapulohumeral muscles are not rotator cuffs? (2)
- Deltoid
- Teres major
Deltoid
proximal attachment: lateral clavicle, acromion, spine of scapula
distal attachment: Deltoid tuberosity
Innervation: axillary nerve
Action: shoulder abduction and adduction, shoulder extension and flexion, shouler internal and external rotation
Teres major
proximal attachment: inferior angle and inferior portion of the lateral border of scapula
distal attachment: medial lip of bicipital groove
Innervation: lower subscapular nerve
Action: Shoulder adduction, shoulder extension, shoulder medial rotation
What muscle does teres major share actions with
latissimus dorsi
What do the rotator cuff collectively do
reinforce fibrous joint capsule of the glenohumeral joint , stabilizing the joint
Supraspinatus
proximal attachment: supraspinous fossa
Distal attachment: Greater tubercle of humerus
Innervation: suprascapular nerve
Action: first 15 degrees of abduction
What is the first muscle to intiate abduction
supraspinatus,
deltoid does the rest
Infraspinatus
proximal attachment: infraspinous fossa
Distal attachment: Greater tubercle of humerus
Innervation: suprascapular nerve
Action: Shoulder lateral rotation
Teres minor
proximal attachment: lateral border of the scapula
distal attachment: greater tubercle of the humerus
Innervation: Axillary nerve
Action: external/shoulder rotation
Name two muscles that both have external/lateral shoulder rotation
Infraspinatus and Teres minor
Subscapularis
proximal attachment: subscapular fossa
Distal attachment: lesser tubercle of humerus
Innervation: upper and lower subscapular nerve
Action: internal/medial rotation
What rotator cuff muscles are responsible for external/lateral shoulder rotation
infraspinatus and teres minor
