KIN 100 - Cubital Fossa, Elbow, Radioulnar Joints (lecture 9) Flashcards
Cubital fossa
triangular shaped, shallow depression on the anterior aspect of the elbow joint
List the three boundaries of the cubital fossa
- An imaginary line drawn between medial and lateral epicondyles
- Pronator teres (medially)
- Brachioradialis (laterally)
What is the floor of the cubital fossa. formed by
formed by the brachialis and supinator muscles
What is the roof of the cubital fossa formed by
the bicipital aponeurosis, connective tissue and skin
What are the contents of the cubital fossa
- Biceps brachii tendon
- Brachial artery
- Median nerve
What crosses the cubital fossa superficially
the median cubital vein
What articulation does the elbow joint consist of
the humeroulnar and humeroradial articulations
What does the trochlea of the humerus articulate with
the trochlear notch of the ulna
What does the capitulum of the humerus articulate with
the head of the radius
What kind of synovial joint is the elbow joint and the movement it permits
hinge joint, elbow flexion and extension
Intrinsic ligaments of the elbow joint
- Radial collateral ligament
- Ulnar collateral ligment
- Anular ligament
Where does the anular ligament encircle
the head of the radius, allowing it to pivot during pronation and supination
What’s the Tommy John surgery
ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction after ruptering/stretched/torn
Describe the proximal radioulnar joint
head of the radius articulates with the radial notch of the ulna
What synovial joint is the proximal radioulnar joint
pivot, synovial joint
