Monetarism was adopted as an economic strategy to deal with inflation.
Thatcher installed Trident, a new generation of nuclear missiles in Britain.
The 1980 Housing Act gave tenants in Council Houses who had lived there for over three years the right to buy their house with a 33% discount from the market rate. Anyone who had lived in one for more than twenty years could get a 50% discount.

Black Monday Stock Market Crash wiped £50 million off of the value of shares on the London Stock Market.
1988
The number of new Council homes being built was reduced by the 1988 Housing Act banning Councils from using money raised from the sale of Council homes to invest in building new ones.

Thatcher took steps to create an internal market in the NHS. Rather than hospitals being funded directly, the new system would lead to district hospitals buying services from local hospitals.
Labour abandoned many of the hard-left policies that they had embraced in the early 1980s.
