Joints Flashcards
What are articulations?
joints
What is the inverse movement between mobility and stability?
The more MOBILE a joint is the less STABLE a joint is
What is a fibrous joint?
Its dense irregular tissue that has no joint cavity
what is a cartilaginous joint?
Joint that cartilage binds the bone and has no joint cavity
What is a synovial joint?
Ligaments support the articulating bones and bone separated by a joint cavity
What is synarthrosis?
Immovable joint
what is amphiarthrosis?
slightly moveable
What is diarthrosis?
freely moveable
What is a suture?
A fibrous joint that is bonded by dense regular tissue and is immoveable
what is syndesmosis?
A fibrous joint held together by interosseous ligaments slightly moveable
what is gomphosis?
A fibrous joint at the root of the tooth attached by periodontal membranes immoveable
What is synchondrosis?
A cartilaginous joint that is connected by hyaline cartilage and is immoveable
What is an example of a syndesmosis joint?
Radius and ulna and tibia and fibula
What is an example of a suture joint?
coronal
What is an example of a synchondrosis joint?
Epiphyseal plate
What is the symphysis joint?
a cartilaginous joint connected by fibrocartilage and is slightly moveable
What is an example of a symphysis joint?
intervertebral discs and pubic symphysis
