What is the difference between quoi and lequel(le)?

A

Quoi is the indefinite object of any other preposition and is indefinite: there is no antecedent
Whereas lequel is a RELATIVE pronoun and requires an antecedent

eg
Je ne sais pas à quoi tu penses. vs
J’ai trouvé un stylo avec lequel écrire.

When is ce needed?

A

The indefinite demonstrative pronoun ce is required when a preposition + quoi begins a clause or follows c’est.

Ce à quoi tu penses peut me faire changer d’avis.
C’est ce dans quoi je vivais.
